The EU's Scientific Committee on
Animal Health and Welfare has condemned the conditions in which some battery-farmed hens
are reared, and has called for a complete overhaul of production methods across Europe.
Chickens are reported to suffer from serious health problems, including leg injuries,
heart failure and dermatitis, as a result of factory farming methods.
